Shooting Directly Off the Catch
One thing I noticed was people very rarely will catch a pass then instantly shoot. Even if they are wide open after receiving the pass, they will instead choose to either A) Hold the ball for a few seconds, then shoot when the defender is closer, or B) Take a dribble or two, despite the fact that the defender is now caught up to them, and then shoot. Roger and Huyen do this ALL the time, and it frustrates me for a couple reasons: One, they could have had a wide open shot but instead they let the defender catch up to them, and Two, IT RUINS THE ASSISTS FOR THE PASSER! I'm only passing to Davis for now on!

I'm not really a catch and shoot guy. I choose my spots. If I feel that the opponent is going to run at me on the pump (because they respect my shot), I have a better chance of blowing by them or at least setting my teammate up for a better shot. After shooting 11-23 this weekend from downtown, I think I know what I'm talking about. BOO YA!
ReplyDeletegood, once i get my shot going, it should be a high % for an assist!
