Ready to Rumble

Alright fellas, teams are set, schedule and website are ready, now all we need to do is play!

Check it out here: BBA6

I did a really quick Preseason Ranking of the teams, just to help try to put together a balanced schedule. Think there is a team that at the bottom that you are gonna lead to the title? Or a team that is at the top that is absolute garbage?

BBA6 Teams Finalized?

Made changes to 3 teams: http://ieng9.ucsd.edu/~elowe/BBA6%20Teams.htm

- Disbanded: Ma-Hrb-Mat, Wll-Hyn-Mat, Ray-Hrb-Rus
- Created: Hyn-Hrb-Mat, Ray-Hrb-Mat, Wll-Ma-Rus

The disbanded teams were either too weak or too strong. I think the new ones will help maintain parity and competitiveness.

Thoughts on Teams

Teams in question:

RAY-HRB-RUS
RAY-MA-DAV
MA-HRB-MAT
HYN-MKE-RUS
KLO-RAY-MKE

-Herb/Rus combo was terrible the last season.
There has to be a switch up there.

-I'm afraid a Ray-Ma-Dav might be similar to
the Ray-Dan-Dav of BBA5, it might fair better with the height
but i'm not sure if it'll be good match up with any other team.

-Ma-Hrb-Mat might be a problem- take a look at BBA5- Hyn-ma-mat made
top 3, but ray-ma-mat made bottom ranks. Since
herb is ranked lower than Ray and Hyn, it probably wouldn't be
a good team for any of those guys.

-Hyn-Mke-Rus- seems like the next hyn-ma-rus of last season.

-Klo-Ray-Mke- seems too good, if Mke is the better part of Rob Chen,
then this team will be domination. Klo-Ray-Rus last season didn't
do that bad. Look at the other matchups of the same tier setup-
KLo-Rog-Rus, Ray-Rog-Dan, Hyn-Ray-Mat, Klo-hyn-dav.

Okay, that's all.

BBA6 Teams Updated

http://ieng9.ucsd.edu/~elowe//BBA6%20Teams.htm

Alright, I changed ROG-HRB-DAV to ROG-HRB-MKE, and WLL-HRB-MKE to WLL-HRB-DAV.

I'm going to be putting together the schedule during my downtime at the airport and in Boston, so voice any other concerns now.

Updated Rankings and Random Thoughts

1. HYN
2. JOE
3. KLO
4. RAY
5. WIL
6. ROG
7. MKE
8. MA
9. HRB
10. MAT
11. RUS
12. DAN
13. DAV

Should be a competitive season, but JOE is receiving way too much hype, WIL still needs to prove himself after being out of the BBA for the last two seasons, KLO will continue to be top 3 in the rankings somehow, MKE will surprise people by finishing in the middle of the pack, and RUS finally steps up his game to overtake both DAN and DAV.

It's now fairly obvious that the tandem of HYN-ROG is too unstoppable. With their reckless shooting and uptempo playing style, no one in the league could hang with them (as they take AND make shots from as far out as half court). Sorry we can't play together this season ROG.

JOE will feast on the small asians (basically everyone) but will find out that teams will draw up ridiculous game plans to render him useless (triple team? yes.)

KLO must set out to prove that he is still the #1 balla (that is if he can hang with the self-proclaimed KLO-stopper, RUS. LOLLLLLLLLLLLLL!)

RAY talks a big game and usually backs it up. However, he's like an Allen Iverson: aging, slow, brash, and thinks he's still 20 years old. Face it, RAY will need to play like a veteran and realize that he can't do it all anymore. Just pass the torch to HYN (and the ball) and get out of the way.

WIL looks pretty trim since the last time I saw him. He could be the wildcard this season, but we have to see how he manages over the course of the season. Remember, he finished only 5th in season 3 after being predicted to be unstoppable.

ROG is a ticking timebomb. He might go for long durations without hitting anything (and taking as many questionable shots as myself) but you always have this sick feeling in your stomach that this little dirty sanchez is gonna go off for 12 straight points all by himself. Better shot selection and fg % is key for ROG this season.

MA has all the tools to be a bad-ass, yet he's more of a nice-guy-next-door type of a dude. If it wasn't for his rebounds and blocks, his stock could take a huge fall. C'mon MA, you shot 38% last season. Take out my 3 point attempts and I shot 45%. Don't make me start yelling at you like I did in college. YOU KNOW I WILL!!!

HRB has always been a headscratcher. There are games (documented by film nonetheless) where HRB seems unstoppable. If he puts this same attitude into every game, we might see the second coming of Lebron. He's that good. With that being said, I predict HRB to stumble this season. He'll be too distracted writing love poems to his boo rather than jotting down stats.

MKE is white, so that moves him up in the rankings a bit (unless his name is MAT). He also doesn't call many fouls (like some people in our league.....*MAT*). His ability to drain some 3's should help open up the court for his teammate as well. He's good at fantasy football.

MAT has two season under his belt and seems to be getting better with each game. Will this season be his coming out party? Probably not, but a man can dream, right?!?!

DAN has the dangerous moving screens, the patented skyhook and the uncanny ability to light up RUS for 6+ points every game. A valuable teammate to have.

DAV apparently has been doing the P90X and is in the best shape of his life. To be honest, I don't understand why DAV always falls to the bottom of the rankings as he has the tools to be dominant as well. Let's see if P90X does the trick or if he'll have to upgrade to...INSANITY.

RUS has been going to boxing classes 3-4 times a week, so he should have more stamina, which equals to more strength and endurance (less airballs hopefully). I honestly don't know why I have him ranked anywhere BUT last place...but hey, i'm his housemate and I am supposed to support him. So there, he's ranked #11.

Joey in BBA? 4v4?

Some of us have been tossing the idea around of inviting Joey to BBA6. Of course the concern is that he'd thoroughly dominate us, especially if he play with BBA-intensity and played to dominate. At the same time, it might be possible to neutralize him with lesser teammates. A Joey-Dan-Dav team wouldn't be that much better than a Rog-Hrb-Matt team, if it's even better at all.

What do you guys think?

If you haven't played with Joey, he's a 6'4" lanky 3pt stroking, rebounding machine with good handles. He played with us in BBA2, check out his stats: BBA2

At least we'd have someone to match up with Rob Ma's height.

This would make 13 of us in BBA6. We had 12 last season. I don't think 13 would be an issue with our current 3v3 setup, but some people have suggested we move to 4v4 games.

It could work, but here are my concerns/opinions:
- I prefer 3v3 for increased floor space
- 3v3 gives more people rest in between games, which was in high demand in previous seasons
- 3v3 is our past setup, and would be easier to create teams and schedule based on experience
- Continuity of stats: the modern age of BBA (3,4,5) has all been 3v3. Switching to 4v4 disrupts some inter-seasonal stat comparisons, ie. PPG, RPG, APG.
- Unknown number of team-matchups in 4v4: If some enterprising BBAer could put together a mock 4v4 team roster, we could see how many of these teams would be able to actually play against each other. (ie. a team of Klo-hrb-dan-dav can't play any other team with either of those 4 players on it) This may or may not be an issue, just something we have to investigate.

But if 4v4 is what people want and we can make it work, I am down to give it a shot.

Here is my BBA5 team creation excel sheet if you would like to use it as a template for either 3v3 or 4v4 team creation. But before anyone jumps into that, we need to decide about Joey.

BBA Baller Seeding

Alright, we've got the lineup:

1. Will
2. Huyen
3. Kevin
4. Ray
5. Roger
6. Ma
7. Herb
8. Mike
9. Matt
10. Dan
11. Russ
12. Davis

12 people, same as last season so that should make team making and scheduling easier. I don't think we can really start until January, unless we play midweek sometime in December. I still have to make the teams anyways, and I can't do that until after the 15th. Until then, we can just do some pickup games to get back into shape. I know I need to do some preseason training.

Above is a rough seeding of players that I need to do to make teams as fair as possible, based somewhat on previous BBA seasons and what I've seen recently. Feel free to chime in opinions for changes, maybe we can play a practice round to see how accurate it is.

BBA5 Preseason Seedings (Current BBA5 Baller Rank)
1. Klo (2)
2. Rog (5)
3. Hyn (1)
4. (Alc) (6)
5. Ray (3)
6. Hrb (9)
7. Ma (4)
8. Mat (10)
9. Dan (7)
10. (Rob) (8)
11. Dav (12)
12. Rus (11)
