Dude, Who Stuffed the Ballot??

Seriously, Huyen, or Matt? Haha

Monday, January 25, 2010

Thats it.

I can deal with being at the bottom in field goal%, i can deal with my less than mediocre stats, i can deal with my shitty play, i can deal with a spotty record... BUT I CANNOT DEAL WITH BEING SCHOOLED BY DAVIS.

That. Is. It.

It is on.

As I watch the gains in Davis' play of the week votes, i grow more and more determined... to dominate. I realize the only reason my opponents get a chance to school me is because i don't end the game fast enough. Back in the day, it was tres, tres, tres and the game was over. But now that i am lacking in my offensive prowess, i play an exploitable game. In the video, i see a lot of me being in the facialed section, whereas i used to be in the facialer section. I think there in lies my answer. Give out more facials, which equates to domination in offense, which equates to scoring more points faster, which equates to going back to my cruel bitch lover- the tre.

Yes. It will be over next week for all of you. I will bring complimentary towels that read, "I got facialed by Roger and all i got was this dirty towel".

(On a side note, this "facialing" is used in the most heterosexual, basketball dominating way, if you are thinking of it in a different way... you disgust me.)

THE END.

The Declaration...Part II

Since I underperformed again, I figured I might as well make another prophetic statement, seeing how it worked last time:

I declare STRAIGHT-UP DOMINATION when we all lace-up for week 4.

Statlines of the Week (2+3)

Stats are updated with Week 2 & 3.

Sorry for lack of "news" per se, but it's much easier just to write stuff on here than trying to format it all with Excel. So what statlines stuck out for me in the past 2 weeks?

  • Three Triple-Doubles were recorded on Monday, with DAN recording his first ever with a massive 6-6-3 game in JOE-MAT-DAN's win over HYN-MKE-RUS. JOE and ROG contributed the other two T-D's.
  • MA went 0-3 on Friday, then 0-3 on Monday to bring his overall record to 0-10... This ties ROB in BBA4 for the BBA's longest losing streak ever. ROB started the season 1-10, and went on to finish a dismal 13-23. Bear in mind, however, that MA also started the season slow last year in BBA5, going 5-12 in the first 17 games, only to go a blistering 13-2 over the next 15 games and finish at 18-14. Still, 0-10 is a tough hole to dig out of. Did you know that HYN had two separate 8 game losing streaks in BBA3?
  • First RUS records his first two Double-Doubles of his career in Week 1, now DAV in Week 2 recorded only his second and third D-D's of his entire 4-year BBA career. DAV did it both times with big boards and assists (1-6-3, 1-6-2 respectively).
  • HYN follows up on his Week 2 Player of the Week-winning performance, where he averaged 6.75 ppg over 4 games, with a uninspired 3 game stretch in Week 3 where he averaged 3 ppg. JOE has also fallen into hard times during Week 3, also averaging only 3 ppg over 3 games. The drop in production forces him to surrender the BBA Scoring lead to KLO at 5.20 ppg.
Other notes:
  • WLL is struggling big time. Perhaps it is that he always gets the toughest defenders, but even so, 12th out of 13 in Baller Rank is the exact opposite of what we expected for this preseason #2 seed. Only DAV sits behind him in last place.
  • Assists are way up this year over BBA5, most likely thanks to the less stringent Assist definition and closer attention to stat recording. 4 ballers (RAY, MKE, HYN, WLL) are averaging over 1.43 assists per game, while last season's Assist leader (HYN) averaged a mere 1.25 apg. Or could it be that everyone is obsessed with racking up assists nowadays?
  • The two teams atop the Standings, #1 ROG-HRB-MKE (2-0) and #2 KLO-HRB-DAN (2-0), were both predicted to finish at the bottom of the league, with preseason ranks of #18 and #19 respectively. Instead, they are in the driver's seat for the League Title, ahead of 7 other undefeated teams. Perhaps this is due to the resurgent play of HRB, who is averaging a career high 3.78 points and 1.11 apg, and playing with renewed vigor and intensity. Is it because he has new fans out there that he needs to impress?
  • DAN's FG% is way down over his career percentage. He is shooting 26.1%, down from 37.4% from last season. The reason? He's launching THREE TIMES as many 3-pointers as he did last season: 3.2 3pt attempts compared to 1.1 attempts last season. And he's not making them. His Points Per Shot is way down, and I'm sure he's costing his team valuable possessions. When people are lazy, they jack up 3's. Don't get lazy DAN. May I remind you guys: I Fell In Love with a 3 Pointer

Stat Line of the Week (Week 1)

Tough to choose from. We knew JOE would be dominant, so his lines of 6+ pts, 8+ rebs aren't that surprising. What were surprising were these:
  • 2 straight 3-6-2 Double-Doubles from RUS in back to back wins
  • WLL's 0-0-0 clunker of a debut
I'm going to go with the 0-0-0, only the 4th such game recorded since stats were kept for Assists, coming from WLL of all people! Perhaps he had first game jitters, as he managed to shake the rust off in order
to actually contribute in his next 3 games.

Anyone got any other interesting lines?

Regarding Assists!

I swear I am robbed of an assist every game! I know Ray feels the same way. We need to do a better job of paying attention, especially on assists. Everyone who is on the sidelines should be watching for when there is an assist and making sure the assist man records it.

In addition, people are much to strict on the definition of an assist. When you record assist, think of it in the loosest terms. The shooter doesn't need to shoot immediately after the pass. As long as the pass contributes to getting the shooter the shot, it's an assist. The shooter can still take a dribble or two for it to still be an assist: imagine a cherry picker who gets a half court pass, takes a dribble to set up a wide-open layup. That is most definitely an assist, regardless of whether he took a dribble or not.

When in question, give them the benefit of the doubt!

Time to get serious

In terms of strength and endurance, I feel like I am in the best shape of any BBA season. Sadly that has not translated well on the offensive end. I am pretty disgusted with my shot selection and inability to knock down easy layups after blowing by my guy. This will all change the next time we play. I declare STRAIGHT-UP DOMINATION when we all lace-up for week 2.

Oh and I challenge anyone to light me up. I TRIPLE DARE YOU. The nasty-in-your-face defense is gonna be on display once more. I'll call it right now...I will shut down ANYONE. AND YOU WON"T HAVE THE SLIPPERY FLOOR TO HELP AID YOU EITHER.

Signing out,

Huyen the RAY-KLO-RUS-JOE-ROG-DAV-DAN-MA-MAT-HRB-MKE-WLL stopper

What I'd Like To See in Week 2 (Based on Week 1)!

I'd like to see an upset, that's for sure.

Individually, here's how I break it down:

Dan: Less 3 point attempts, you are tied for 4th highest attempts in the league, yet you are only shooting 20%. Take it down low and show of some of that gym muscle and those graceful low post moves.

Davis: More of that Game 1 hustle that netted you 9 rebounds, that must be a career high! Again, like Dan, avoid launching those 3's. You are averaging 1.5 attempts, twice as many as you averaged in BBA5!

Herb: Continue with the games with 13+ FG attempts. You tapered off with the last 2 games, but your first 3 games were huge. You gotta get your shots in, especially since you, unlike everyone else in the league, aren't in love with the 3!

Huyen: Less passing, more shooting. I know you want to be a triple-double threat, but look at the stats: your team won with you scoring 6 points, and you scored a combined 6 points in your 3 losses. BBA5's leading scorer has got to take over!

Joey: Pass more, you need to get more assists and get the ball out of your hands and be less dominant.

Kevin: Keep up the good work.

Ma: 5.50 rpg game isn't gonna cut it. Far below your career average, and you gotta do something about Joey and his 10.50 rpg game, you're our only hope! Like how people seem to be incorporating you into pick and roll gameplans (ie Huyen and Will).

Matt: Keep up the intensity, drive to the hoop, you've got great drives and a good midrange. You've got more endurance than all of these fools, just run circles around them and watch them drop like flies.

Mike: Look for your shot more, the 3's weren't falling for you last weekend, but I remember you were draining them last time. And finish on those layups!

Ray: Just take over. There are a few people in this league that can just take over the game if they want to. Don't wait for motivation to turn it on, just keep it full blast the whole time!

Roger: Whatever you are doing, it's working. 1 for 11 on three's, but you still managed to win. 4-0, it's you and me, no advice for you!

Russ: Keep taking those open shots cause you're nailing them. And keep up with that rebounding, us little guys have to be active and chase down loose balls to get our rebounds these days.

Will: Take over! Did you know that there were only 3 recorded 0 point, 0 rebound, 0 assist games all of last season (BBA5)? You recorded one in your very first game in your triumphant return to BBA! I seeded you #2! Don't let me down. I was expecting 6 ppg and 6 rpg, not 2.25 ppg and 3 rpg! Use your P90x strength and back these little guys down. I saw you do it a few times against Roger, but you should have been doing it all the time. And where is the fade away???

PS. Ray, sorry you only got 3 games in. I had scheduled 12 games, but we only made it to 9. I was hoping we'd at least get to 10 to get everyone 4 games, but people had places to be I believe.
